Rhyme Asylum – Solitary Confinement [Exclusive]
The tale of Rhyme Asylum is something we’ll be repeating to our grandchildren when asked about the true identity of 21st century U.K Hip-Hop. After earning their stripes through a series of Real Deal Open Mic sessions, Possessed, Psiklone and Skirmish collectively form Rhyme Asylum which is now a nationally recognised brand. Solitary Confinement is the brand new album which is released off the back of their debut “State of Lunacy” in 2008. The album was credited as lyrically ground breaking, and ultimately set Rhyme Asylum a bar above the rest.
April 23rd marked the release of Rhyme Asylum‘s Solitary Confinement which was distributed digitally through all the major on-line retailers, and was pre-ordered Internationally through the group’s social media network. The theme for the album is simple – disturbed. A highly praised photo shoot accompanied the promotion for the album, which features guest appearances from Crooked I, Ill Bill, Darkstar and Reain (long time collaborative member). High-profile producer Chemo is also credited with guest production on “Straight Jacket Immortals”.
The music really speaks for itself, I’m genuinely amazed with the wicked wordplay and the raw lyricism that the three artists provide. U.K Hip-Hop as a genre has a mixed image, however Rhyme Asylum quite clearly sit at the top of any debate when we argue for our music. The likes of “Fight Music” is relevant to the album, completely on-point, and the guys have evidently mastered the commercial appeal / underground talent balance required to be successful. “Axe of Violence” is another entry on the tracklist which contains bars of quotable lines.
“I beat the odds till I’m breaking even, arrange the demon, driving crucifixes into pagan heavens”
“Event Horizon” is the track that features Slaughterhouse member Crooked I, and the quality ensure’s unless he delivers a quality verse, he’d get completely out-shined from Rhyme Asylum. in fairness to Crooked I he matches the expectation of his cameo, and contributes to an already-formed superb track. Another personal highlight is “Broken Window” which can only be described as a brilliant piece of art. The imagery created is complimented with the typical eerie-type Rhyme Asylum beat, and together form a beautifully crafted song.
The album gives no disappointing reporting, only track-after-track of excellent music which will become good friends with your repeat button. I’d highly recommend purchasing Rhyme Asylum – Solitary Confinement from one of the download links below, not only showing support to U.K recording artists, but to awesome music which needs to be heard.
