Star Trek Into Darkness Review

Written by Dave Bosworth

Set Phasers to Fun…I mean Stun

Welcome back film fans to this weeks HHKMovies Review. This week we look at Star Trek Into Darkness. The second installment in the Sci Fi franchise from J.J. Abrams(Super 8, Star Trek) beaming back the crew of the Enterprise under the questionable leadership of wild and reckless Cpt. Jim Kirk played by Chris Pine(This Means War) and his half-human half-vulcan 2nd in command Mr Spock. This voyage of Star Fleet’s finest ship takes them beyond anything they’ve experienced before. Beyond what they thought they were capable of and beyond the directives of Star Fleet Exploration! With Alice Eve(She’s Out of My League) having made her way onto the crew of the Starship we’re treated to something that the die hard Trekkies will make sure they get use of….but she wasn’t invited on the ship!

Abrams brings us this installment after listening to alot of feedback and critique from fans of the original series and he doesn’t disappoint. Into Darkness is a feast for the eyes and with a strong cast leading from the original, you really engage with key characters and want to be part of their journey. Queue Benedict Cumberbatch(Sherlock) as mystery man “John Harrison” who is more of an anomoly than why Cpt. Kirk hasn’t caught an STD yet. I’ve got to say though that Cumberbatch has to get special mention in this review for his role in portraying the bad guy here. I’m not going to give away any spoilers for those of you who haven’t yet seen the movie. But, yes. If you’re a Trek fan. Yes, it’s him. That’s all I’m saying though!

Into Darkness is the BEST movie of the year so far. With fantastic and rich visuals, layered characters and relationsips that pull you in and make you feel everything they do, Academy Award strong acting, spaceships, boobs, stuff blowing up and Klingons. You can’t get much more closer to perfect than that little checklist of what makes great Sci Fi.

Rating?
Definitely 5 out of 5.
Perfect.

Undefined ft Brown Bag AllStars - Broken 40 Bottles

Undefined ft Brown Bag AllStars – Broken 40 Bottles

I jumped at the chance to share the new Brown Bag AllStars posse cut, and the news that producer “Undefined” will be releasing a collaborative E.P with the crew is even better news. Aptly titled “Certified A-Side”, Undefined leaks the first track from the forthcoming E.P titled “Broken 40 Bottles” which features the Brown Bag AllStars in full effect as always. Look out for plenty of other promo as we head towards the release of the E.P, however in the meantime you can view the single artwork, and listen to Undefined ft Brown Bag AllStars – Broken 40 Bottles on the audio player below.

When it comes to live band backed hip-hop groups America has The Roots and France has Hocus Pocus and pretty soon England could have their very own. The Mouse Outfit are a 9 piece live band hailing from Manchester and have now released their debut album: Escape Music. Their debut album seems somewhat overdue however since The Mouse Outfit have been touring for several years. It was well worth the wait though. Escape Music features Dr Syntax and Sparkz as well as a selection of other highly talented rappers including Lyricalligraphy, Truthos Mufasa and Kosyne to name but a few.

If the HHK readers should ever take advantage of a free download I highly suggest this is the one. Rockfresh is a brand which has a brilliant operation supporting underground Hip-Hop, and sells a range of hoodies, jumpers and t-shirts which cater for the heads. The new album “Superimposed Headphones” is a new 14-track project which features some of my favourite UK MC’s and producers including Irn Mnky, Micall Parknsun, Spida Lee, DJ esSDee  and more. You can view the artwork and download link to Superimposed Headphones above, and please make sure to visit the website as well. You can also view myself and DJ esSDee’s tribute to Beastie Boy MCA on the YouTube player below.

Olympus Has Fallen Review

Olympus Has Fallen

Olympus Has Fallen

Written By David Bosworth (@boz_worth)

“When Our Flag Falls, Our Nation will rise”…..

With a tagline like this you get a pretty good idea about how this movie will play out and you’re not far out! Antoine Fuqua(Training Day) brings us the flag flying, salute giving, bald eagle on bicep tattooing “Olympus Has Fallen”. The story of what happens when the White House is taken and who in Gods Free Land can take it back? Mike Banning of course! Mike Banning is THE ex secret service agent and bad ass mother fudger who works at the Treasury, of all places. Why? Because of a horrific accident involving President Ben Asher, who demoted Mike and left him to wallow at a desk. Gerard Butler(300) leads an impressive cast including Aaron Eckhart(The Dark Knight) and Morgan Freeman(Shawshank Redemption) in this action fueled and politically dangerous movie.

America sees its monuments fall and its White House alight when all hell steps foot on Washington’s streets. With little time to react the nation can’t fathom the idea that the safest building in the country is under siege! Who is responsible? How will they get it back? Who is in charge when both the President and the Vice President are taken hostage? These are legitimate questions for anything other than the ‘One-Man Army’ action genre. You can’t expect suspense and thrills when King Leonidas is the leading man. When you go in with the knowledge that this is Die Hard at The White House you will enjoy this movie much more.

To expect twists and turns and who-done-its will only leave you with a bad taste in your mouth after this movie. You like explosions, cliche one liners and some foreign dudes getting blown away then this is for you! Just sounds like a synopsis for “Die Hard” right? Yep that’s this, just with better CGI. Oh yeah, by the way, its the North Koreans…

Rating?
3.5 out of 5
