File Sharing Websites Coming To An End
Published on 22 September, 2006Email To Friend

It's been six years since the end of the ultimate downloading program (Napster), and six years later, the RIAA are still taking peer-to-peer companies to court. This type of news is regularly passed around, however this time it looks like file sharing online will be dead within the next few years.

The RIAA have taken several of the high-profiled companies to court. Reports suggest that an agreement has been settled by eDonkey and the RIAA, totalling to $300m. Users who had the software installed were given an upgrade option, which displayed the user was no longer “anonymous”, and their activity was been monitored. The same procedure is ongoing with such companies as Limewire ($476m) and Kazaa ($115m).

Since the downfall of these companies, lots of users have been tempted by bit-torrent. Another way to download music from multiple sources very quickly. The legalities of bit-torrent are still been debated, however Warner Bro's have offered its services in a partnership. This will enable fans to download video clips legally.
