Yesterday marked the 18th anniversary of the release of “Low End Theory” by A Tribe Called Quest. To commemorate the group, QuESt and M Will the Shogun will release a joint project called “A Rapper Called QuESt” appropriately titled to the artist. As Hip-Hop Kings previously reported, Illa J releases the second single from his debut album “Yancey Boys” called Sounds Like Love. This is another great example of Hip-Hop meets Soul, as the angelic sounds of Debi Nova complete the track. Illa J is the younger brother of the late J Dilla who supplied the beat for the single. Slimchance the rapper has released a free charity album, which is groundbreaking and the first of it’s kind. Previously featured, and interviewed on Hip-Hop Kings, Slimchance has got his foot in the music industry and plans to take bigger strides in 2010. In the wake of Apathy’s newest album “Wanna Snuggle?” the single Shoot First which features B Real and Celph Titled has been released. Produced by Mike Shinoda, Apathy is back to his best with the help of Cypress Hill’s B Real, and long-time friend and Demigod member Celph Titled. Miami based producer duo Cool and Dre have received a BET Hip Hop Award nomination as “Producers of the Year”. Cool and Dre are world famous, and have worked with the likes of Busta Rhymes, Game, Gym Class Heroes and Lil Wayne amongst others. Fans and critiques predict they’ll easily win the award, after work on Lil Wayne‘s “Rebirth” album, and scoring soundtracks for Walk the Dinosaur and Ice Age 3. More about the BET Hip Hop Awards and Cool and Dre will be posted in the forthcoming weeks.
After legal battles, drug addiction, a fallen record label and other problems, the “Swollen Members” unite to release their new LP “Armed to the Teeth”. Swollen Members have teamed with Battle Axe Records and Suburban Noize Records, and the album is set to be release on October 27th 2009. Guests confirmed include the likes of Talib Kweli, Everlast and Glasses Malone. Hip-Hop Kings will be following the campaign and bringing news about Swollen Members – Armed to the Teeth as soon as it’s released.
