Freedom Of Press Interview [Exclusive]

• September 24, 2010 • Comments (1)

I recently caught up with Henry Da 8th and YTV (collectively known as “Freedom Of Press“). Here’s the exclusive interview, and make sure you check out the official bandcamp page for their brand new E.P “Yet To Verify”.

HHK: Thank you for taking the time to speak to Hip-Hop Kings guys. For the unfamiliar readers can you introduce Freedom of Press, and give us a brief introduction into your music career so far?
YTV: We’re an MC/DJ combination from the South of England.  YTV on the mic and HENRYtha8TH on production and cuts. We’ve been on the local tip for quite a few years doing live shows making a name for ourselves, now we’re pushing our tracks to get heard around the rest of the UK.
HHK: You’ve recently released the “Yet to Verify E.P” which is available for purchase on the bandcamp page. How long did the project take to complete? And what are your personal favourite songs on there?
H8TH:  It took about six months in total but a lot of that time was wasted on problems with equipment, the actual beats and lyrics didn’t take long at all, we knew what we wanted to do from the start and the finished project is testament to our style. Y’s favourite track is ‘Dogs Of War’, mines gotta be the title track or ‘Dirty Bomb’ cos between the cuts, beats and bars they both show what we’re about.
HHK: What plans do you have after promoting the E.P? And how has the digital era and social media help you connect with fans you couldn’t have before?
YTV: We’ve started work on the next E.P, so that’s gonna keep us pretty busy for a while. The digital era has helped us a lot not only by making new contacts but being able to put our music out to many more people than we could have before.
HHK: If you could collaborate and work with any recording artist, who would it be and why?
H8TH:  Anyone heavy that I rate to be honest, obviously it would be good to do a track with someone like Vinnie Paz or Nas as I like the music they make, but we have just recorded a track with a feature from Lord Willin which is gonna be on the new EP which is a good link for us as we get to push our music overseas and he’s dope so go check his tracks out!
YTV: I just wanna work with any likeminded rappers that are on the same level as me, we have some nice features lined up but im not going to tell you about them now, you will have to wait for when the new EP drops… I also want to work with Katy Perry for obvious reasons haha!!
HHK: What are your other plans for 2010? And can we expect to see some live performances throughout the country too?
YTV: Getting the new project off the ground is the main plan as we want to have a consistent amount of tracks that keep coming out. We are also looking into doing live shows again very soon so any promoters that are looking for live acts get in touch!
HHK: Where are the best places for fans to check for new updates? And is there anything else you’d like to add to the interview?
YTV: Hit us up on Facebook at www.facebook.com/freedomofpress or the YTV & HENRYda8TH fan page for all the new updates or www.reverbnation.com/freedomofpressuk …. we just wanna shout out to Ruairi Hartigan at First Son Records for all his hard work, everyone who collaborated on the E.P, the Techtonic Plates, the Bottomless Crates radio show, the unsung member of Freedom Of Press Lee Gillon, www.sturbanclothing.com/ who are sponsoring us with some clothes so get yourself to their website and buy some quality goods!! And anyone else who has shown us support!!
HHK: Thanks for speaking to Hip-Hop Kings. Good luck for the rest of the year and keep in touch!
