Lincoln Review

Lincoln
Written by Joe Langham (@JoeLang92) | Buy Lincoln from Amazon
Lincoln is the latest offering from Steven Spielberg, rated by Empire Magazine as the greatest director of all time. His film repertoire precedes him with Jaws (1975), Saving Private Ryan (1998) and War Horse (2011) to name a few. The film was recently nominated for 10 BAFTA’s and 12 Academy Award’s including Best Film and Best Director and a pair of nominations in Best Actor for the brilliant Daniel Day-Lewis. Whilst not one of Spielberg’s greatest films, it comes close and can definitely be considered a masterpiece in its own right.
Lincoln follows the revolutionary 16th President of the United States in the final four months of his life and the battle to abolish slavery from America. The film is led by Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, who is supported by a superb cast including Tommy Lee-Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Django Unchained Review

Django Unchained Review
Written by Adam Leivers (@SniperintheMist)
Every time a Quentin Tarantino film comes around it is met with derision, adulation and controversy, not to mention huge swathes of critical judgement the likes of which no other film is subjected to. The man himself is also loved and hated in equal measure, and constantly tows the line between the two with his odd public appearances, defensive interviews and aggressive attitude towards his craft and its representation.
He has a right to be defensive.

RZA’s The Man With The Iron Fists. (2012)
Written by Adam Leivers
After years of flirting with film through bit-part acting roles and producing film scores for Jim Jarmusch’s ‘Ghost Dog: Way Of the Samurai’ and in part Tarantino’s ‘Kill Bill’, the Abbott and founding member of what some would consider the greatest Hip-Hop collective to ever exist has finally struck out on his own.
His directorial debut ‘The Man With The Iron Fists’ sees RZA in his element, creating a truly modern martial arts film that acts as a collage of the Wu-Tang Clan’s noticeable influences and an homage to the classic kung-fu movies he loves.

Hip-Hop Isnt Dead Review

Hip-Hop
Written by Joe Langham (@JoeLang92)
Hip-Hop Isn’t Dead truly lived up to its name putting on a memorable show of some of the UKs finest rappers. English Frank put together a massive line up, both in names and size, which included talent like Skinnyman, Klashnekoff and organiser behind the Hip-Hop mini-fest, English Frank. The setting, Brixton Jamm, despite being on a main road had the feel of being underground, which was rather fitting for the night.
Reveal, the former Poisonous Poets member, opened the night with a selection of acapellas and a couple of songs from his back catalogue. His solid flow over old school beats helped warm up the crowd for the night of real Hip-Hop ahead.
