2012 was a highly successful year for REKS, with the aspiring rapper releasing a series of mixtapes, singles and collaborations which quickly boosted his profile in the U.S and U.K. I have the first single “Judas” which is taken from the forthcoming REKS mixtape “Revolution Cocktail” which will be available to download from 22nd January 2013 from iTunes. One of my “one to watch” artists in 2013 is New York based Joey Badass, who today has announced he’s teamed up with the legendary DJ Premier on his upcoming single “From the Block to the Top”. The single will be available to download from 14th January 2013, from the website listed above, and to celebrate the news, Joey Badass has dropped a two-minute video of him, and DJ Premier talking about their collaboration, and Joey Badass’ immediate plans. This is the brand new single from Reef Ali (producer) and DJ Grazzhoppa’s (DJ) forthcoming album “You Asked For It” which will be available later this year. Confirmed guest appearances include the likes of Reef Tha Lost Cauze, Copywrite, M-Dot, Ras Kass, Chaundon and DJ Green Lantern amongst others. Furthermore, Reef Ali and DJ Grazzhoppa are awaiting to secure two West Coast Hip-Hop legends for a feature track (watch this space). Both battlers have been ever-present in the league this year, battling around the country before meeting in Manchester earlier this year. Mr 13 debuted last year and has quickly grown whilst maintaining his Bang FM Radio show with DJ Bones, and releasing music. One of my favourite breakthrough artists I’ve featured on Hip-Hop Kings this year is OBX, and with possibly the last video/single of the year I’d like to share “The Purpose”. The new track cements the reason for my earlier statement, as OBX raps over a 9th Wonder beat with ease. OBX has released his project “Brown Magic” on 15th October 2012 which can be downloaded from the link listed above, and was a tribute to music legend Carlos Santana.
