News reached us today that De La Soul will be releasing a highly limited edition vinyl (only 100) copies of an instrumental album of “Smell The Da.I.S.Y”. The vinyl will contain all 11 of the Smell The Da.I.S.Y instrumentals, plus one never-heard J Dilla beat. The idea behind the limited release is to “resemble the limited amount of beat tapes that Dilla would send out to artists like Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Busta, and De La.” Furthermore, there will be no information to which stores will have the vinyl, so crate diggers get ready! You can look at the De La Soul website (link above) for clues.

J Dilla‘s mother has revealed that a new project will be released soon, consisting of music from the late producer and other artists from Detroit.
Maureen Yancy released a video revealing the news about the late producer, James “J Dilla” Yancy, and that the project will be released this fall.
The project will be titled “The Rebirth of Detroit” and will feature Detroit-based artists who have worked with J Dilla in the past. Mrs. Yancy is also known as Ma Dukes, and she explained that the main goal of the project was building camaraderie.
“This will bring together artists that have drifted away from one another and haven’t been able to work with each other lately,” Mrs. Yancy explained. “It’s a healing process for the city.
“The Rebirth of Detroit” will consist of completely new material and ideas from J Dilla.
“There’s a misconception that it has something to do with old projects. This is entirely new, fresh ideas, energetic, fresh and gifted. It is titled The Rebirth of Detroit, so no one will get it twisted,” said Mrs. Yancy.
J Dilla passed away on the 10th February, 2006 from complications resulting from the autoimmune disorder lupus.
