Suck Sess is featured on Chief Wigz and Sonar Cousin’s forthcoming mixtape “The Cat Returns” which will be available later this year, and Matter is called upon to provide an excellent verse for the track. Filmed and edited by Major Kuts and The Local Heros, credits also go to the label Dont Talk to Strangers who are the label behind the artists, and the most high profile West Yorkshire label ever. For the constant growing West Yorkshire Hip-Hop scene, nobody is more relevant than Defenders of Style, and their latest mixtape “Dirty Sterling” is once again available for free download. Defenders of Style (Jack Danz, Disgust, Prys, Joe snow, DJ Sirplus) have collectively released the project in an effort to showcase their latest music to the nation. The fourteen track mixtape also includes guest features from the likes of Jack Flash, Matter and Lego amongst other local artists. Throughout the course of 2010, a number of West Yorkshire (#WY) MC’s and figureheads have been meeting at Sinoptic Studio’s on a weekly basis for a genuine freestyle session which usually includes various topics of discussion. West Yorkshire based Hip-Hop artists Lunar C and Matter have teamed up for their latest single “Ip Op” (produced by Wizard) which has been made available as a free download from the Lunar C bandcamp page (download link above). Lunar C and Matter are notorious Dont Flop battle rappers, and recently teamed up in a doubles match which will be featured on the official Dont Flop youtube page in the forthcoming weeks. You can catch both Lunar C and Matter battling at the next Don’t Flop event in Leeds on September 17th, and will both be at the Hip-Hop Kings afterparty on the same night. Following the massive success of the U.K rap battle league Don’t Flop, Sedgwick Avenue will be the host of the first Don’t Flop event in Leeds. Main battles including Matter vs Pamflit and Lunar C vs Micky Worthless amongst a list of try out battles, plus Hip-Hop Kings will be hosting the after party up until 22:00 Tickets are £3.00 on the door however the Hip-Hop Kings after party is free. The Golden Mic UK battle tournament crowned highly skilled lyricist Matter as the champion of 2010. Fighting off competiton from the likes of Tongue-Tied, Sage and Jimmy Crackstar, Matter has now walked away with a gold plated Shure SM58 microphone and a host of other prizes including a festival appearance. The Golden Mic battle tournament saw eight competitors battle over three heats, and the Leeds-based event also attracted big names including Mystro and Asaviour. Matter is a member of U.K Hip-Hop outfit Verbal Contact, who along with Chenai have released a track called Tourist Information which you can listen to below.
