Set Phasers to Fun…I mean Stun
Welcome back film fans to this weeks HHKMovies Review. This week we look at Star Trek Into Darkness. The second installment in the Sci Fi franchise from J.J. Abrams(Super 8, Star Trek) beaming back the crew of the Enterprise under the questionable leadership of wild and reckless Cpt. Jim Kirk played by Chris Pine(This Means War) and his half-human half-vulcan 2nd in command Mr Spock. This voyage of Star Fleet’s finest ship takes them beyond anything they’ve experienced before. Beyond what they thought they were capable of and beyond the directives of Star Fleet Exploration! With Alice Eve(She’s Out of My League) having made her way onto the crew of the Starship we’re treated to something that the die hard Trekkies will make sure they get use of….but she wasn’t invited on the ship!
Abrams brings us this installment after listening to alot of feedback and critique from fans of the original series and he doesn’t disappoint. Into Darkness is a feast for the eyes and with a strong cast leading from the original, you really engage with key characters and want to be part of their journey. Queue Benedict Cumberbatch(Sherlock) as mystery man “John Harrison” who is more of an anomoly than why Cpt. Kirk hasn’t caught an STD yet. I’ve got to say though that Cumberbatch has to get special mention in this review for his role in portraying the bad guy here. I’m not going to give away any spoilers for those of you who haven’t yet seen the movie. But, yes. If you’re a Trek fan. Yes, it’s him. That’s all I’m saying though!
Into Darkness is the BEST movie of the year so far. With fantastic and rich visuals, layered characters and relationsips that pull you in and make you feel everything they do, Academy Award strong acting, spaceships, boobs, stuff blowing up and Klingons. You can’t get much more closer to perfect than that little checklist of what makes great Sci Fi.
Definitely 5 out of 5.

“When Our Flag Falls, Our Nation will rise”…..
With a tagline like this you get a pretty good idea about how this movie will play out and you’re not far out! Antoine Fuqua(Training Day) brings us the flag flying, salute giving, bald eagle on bicep tattooing “Olympus Has Fallen”. The story of what happens when the White House is taken and who in Gods Free Land can take it back? Mike Banning of course! Mike Banning is THE ex secret service agent and bad ass mother fudger who works at the Treasury, of all places. Why? Because of a horrific accident involving President Ben Asher, who demoted Mike and left him to wallow at a desk. Gerard Butler(300) leads an impressive cast including Aaron Eckhart(The Dark Knight) and Morgan Freeman(Shawshank Redemption) in this action fueled and politically dangerous movie.
America sees its monuments fall and its White House alight when all hell steps foot on Washington’s streets. With little time to react the nation can’t fathom the idea that the safest building in the country is under siege! Who is responsible? How will they get it back? Who is in charge when both the President and the Vice President are taken hostage? These are legitimate questions for anything other than the ‘One-Man Army’ action genre. You can’t expect suspense and thrills when King Leonidas is the leading man. When you go in with the knowledge that this is Die Hard at The White House you will enjoy this movie much more.
To expect twists and turns and who-done-its will only leave you with a bad taste in your mouth after this movie. You like explosions, cliche one liners and some foreign dudes getting blown away then this is for you! Just sounds like a synopsis for “Die Hard” right? Yep that’s this, just with better CGI. Oh yeah, by the way, its the North Koreans…
3.5 out of 5

Yet another highly anticipated movie from the Marvel series hit our screens this week, and as always it did not disappoint. Robert Downey Junior returned to the big screen as the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark we have all grown to love.
With this instalment there is a lot more comedy value brought to the audience than in the previous films, but not to the point where this takes over or becomes corny. Marvel have also compensated the more serious members of the audience with a lot more action, more in the style of avengers than the Iron Man series, constant battles throughout the film rather than just a big boss at the end.

Anyone remember Scary Movie 4? Nope. Me neither. What about Scary Movie 3? The one with Leslie Nielsen as the President and there’s the aliens in the field from ‘Signs’? Struggling to place that one as well Okay. You MUST remember Scary Movie 2 then? Come on, the one with the turkey dinner stuffed with ‘penis’ and vagini’s’, served with the small hand! You remember now? You’ll remember the original then. The one that spawned all the aforementioned sequels both good and bad.
Scary Movie 5 falls into the latter category of ‘Bad’! In fact it probably falls into its own category of ‘The Good(1 & 2), The Bad(3 & 4) and the Ugly(5)’ which is why this review was needed to warn the masses that the horror spoof genre has died a gruesome death!

Before the Spiderman trilogy, Drag Me to Hell and more recently Oz: The Great and Powerful, Sam Raimi stuck to low budget horror films. He made somewhat of a name for himself in 1981 with the influential, brutal and darkly comical Evil Dead, which has garnered a cult following over the years. Step up Fede Alvarez, the young, currently unknown, director of the 2013 Evil Dead remake.

Sunday 16th October 2011 marks the one year anniversary of the death of underground Hip-Hop artist Eyedea. Exactly one year ago today the Hip-Hop world was left shocked and devastated with the untimely death of the Rhymesayers Entertainment artist, and Hip-Hop Kings celebrated the life of Micheal “Eyedea” Larsen with a DJ Critical Hype co-signed mixtape which was given away as a free download. Today I have re-uploaded the mixtape with the view to share Eyedea’s music to the world, which I hope is a fantastic tribute to his life and music career. If you’re a fan of Eyedea, DJ Abilities or Rhymesayers please share this with as many people as possible, and you can view the artwork and download link for DJ Critical Hype and Hip-Hop Kings Present the Eyedea Tribute Mixtape here.

Uploaded on the King of the Dot youtube channel, here is the brand new video from Peter Jackson for his single “Certified”. The Canadian MC has called upon Hip-Hop legends Naughty by Nature for a unique collaborative effort, which has been directed by GDot Solo. Peter Jackson quite clearly pays tribute to Naughty By Nature, with the opening scene shows a young Peter Jackson laid in bed watching Naughty By Nature, and eighteen years later a collaboration he could only dream of has materialised. The single Certified is the latest single off Peter Jackson’s debut album “In My Life” (download link above). You can watch Peter Jackson ft Naughty By Nature – Certified on the video player below.
