This is an exclusive 45-minute Q and A session with Masta Ace, Wordsworth, Stricklin (eMC) and Marco Polo, filmed by Hip-Hop Kings and @CreationBeats at Sedgwick Avenue in Leeds. Fresh Jive and Swagstastik Beat Battles present Edan and Mr Lif Live in Leeds on Saturday 28th April. I spoke with Leeds-based MC Chief Wigz and producer Sonar Cousin in this brand new interview exclusive to Hip-Hop Kings. After we marked a brand new affiliation with Sedgwick Avenue bar, with the Hip-Hop Kings logo gratified onto one of the high walls, we caught up with Chief Wigz and Sonar Cousin ahead of their album “The Cat Came Back” which will be available to fans on April 2nd 2012. Chief Wigz and Sonar Cousin discuss how the collaboration happened, what fans can expect to hear from the album, and what else is planned before the release. Furthermore we have an acapella from Chief Wigz with Sonar Cousin on the keyboard at the end of the interview. Following a live show back in November 2011 for the Fresh Kids Club, Savvy (aka Asaviour) is back in Leeds with a live show at Sedgwick Avenue this Saturday (18th) January 2012. With DJ’s TBreaks and 10Tonn on the 1′s and 2′s, Savvy will be playing to a packed out crowd in one of the cities where he is most followed and loved. Hip-Hop Kings are officially sponsoring the event and is another project as part of our collaboration with Sedgwick Avenue for 2012. Hip-Hop Kings are proud to announce that the iconic Sedgwick Avenue brand will be the companies primary sponsor for 2012. For Hip-Hop fans world-wide, the collaboration will see a number of joint ventures throughout the course of next year, including live events, competitions, exclusive music releases and much more to be announced throughout the early stages of next year.
For the historians amongst others, many will be aware that Sedgwick Avenue is widely regarded as the birthplace of Hip-Hop in New York City. In 2011 the Sedgwick Avenue Hip-Hop bar was opened in Leeds City Centre, and was the host to many memorable nights including Pete Rock, Jeru The Damaja, DJ Vadim, and also hosted the U.K battle event “Don’t Flop”. Sedgwick Avenue was also the location where Hip-Hop Kings hosted the official MF Doom after party towards the end of the year.
Owner of Hip-Hop Kings Ryan Maxwell was quoted the following. “I’m delighted to have secured Sedgwick Avenue bar as our primary sponsor for 2012. Both Tony (co-owner) and myself share the same desire to bring quality Hip-Hop to the masses, and this collaboration will allow us to do this in a number of ways. Hip-Hop Kings readers will probably be more familiar with Matter as a battle rapper in Don’t Flop, however musically we speak on the latest news surrounding Matter and Verbal Contact, along with his thoughts and plans for Don’t Flop. Matter also gives an exclusive freestyle to Hip-Hop Kings fans, and we see a cameo from U.K Hip-Hop legend Mystro too. Last month the Fresh Kids Club had their Leeds launch party at Sedgwick Avenue which turned out to be a huge success. This month (Thursday 10th November) will see the second Fresh Kids Club event with a special guest in the form of Savvy (aka Asaviour). Other DJ’s on the night include DJ Logik, Beatmode and Slobodan amongst others, and as always the live artwork will be running throughout the evening. On Sunday I linked with the mighty Mystro at Sedgwick Avenue in Leeds for a brand new interview and freestyle. As Hip-Hop Kings readers are aware, we caught up with Mystro about a year ago, and during his return to Leeds for “The Guilty Party” event, we got an exclusive (unheard) freestyle, and spoke about what’s been happening since “Fuck Da Taxman”. If you’re around the West Yorkshire area on Thursday 13th October, head down to Sedgwick Avenue for the Fresh Kids Club launch party, which will be packed with Pens, Paint, Beers and Beats. Performances on the night will be coming from Bambooman (Konducters Lab), Thomas (Fresh Kids/Absent Minds), Toxic Logic (Beats and Pieces/Konducters Lab) alongside some graffiti artists and beatmakers.
